"DoD Unique Item IDentification” is a system of marking items delivered to DoD with unique item identifiers that have machine-readable data elements to distinguish an item from all other like and unlike items (Ref: DoD instruction 5000.64). Note: This means that you must have a Unique Item Identifier (UID) Permanently attached to the item. This tag will contain at least an E.I.D. (your cage code or Mfg. Cage Code), a serial number assigned to the item and the part number for the item. All of these items are encoded in the 2d barcode shown in the above example (a synthetic tag). LOOK IN YOU CONTRACT FOR: 252.211-7003 IDENTIFICATION AND VALUATION (JUN 2005) (IAW DFARS 211.274-4, DFARS 212.301) . Generally speaking, items with an individual value of over $5,000 are required to have these tags affixed.
